Chippy the Elf
Monday
Chippy brought us a present. It was full of Santa hats for our Pete the Cat Handprints.
Tuesday
She brought a friend to school.
Wednesday
She had a Christmas count down chain just like we do.
Thursday
She brought the Grinch to Grinch Day.
Friday
Elf Directed Drawing
We practice drawing an elf on the whiteboards. Then we drew an elf with sharpie marker on paper and coloured the elf using pastels.
Gingerbread science
We made predictions of what would happen to a gingerbread man if he was put into water. Then we tested it out. We also predicted whether the gingerbread man would float or sink. We discovered he did float when he was first put in. Then he sank to the bottom. In the end he broke apart and some pieces were floating and some were not.
Grinch Day
We had lots of Grinchy fun on Grinch day. We make Grinch hats. Chippy the elf brought us the book, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, by Dr.Seuss. She also brought the video of the story. We talked about wants and needs and what Christmas is all about. We talked about being mean and being kind.
Our Grinch Look!
We talked about what makes us happy and what we could do to make the Grinch happy. We drew something we could do to make the Grinch grin.
We had a tasty Grinch shake. Thank you to the ladies who volunteered to make the shakes for us!
Hanging out with the Grinch.
Story telling
Students from one of the grade 6 classes came into our class and told us a story they had created. They had drawn first nation type symbols on a rock to tell their story. We got to listen to each of their stories, in small groups, and we talked about the symbols they used. They had some great stories and we enjoyed it.
Beading and First Nations
Mrs. D came in with a class of Grade 5 students to do some beading on the last day of school. She showed the students some beadwork done by First Nation people and by Metis. We used pony beads to do some beading of our own. With the help of the Grade 5 students we made a Christmas tree as a gift for our families. It was a great experience for both the Grade 5 and Kindergarten students.
