Pumpkin patch fieldtrip
On Monday we looked at photos from our pumpkin patch field trip. Then we talked about our favourite things to do at the pumpkin patch. We drew our favourite part of the pumpkin patch field trip.
Aboriginal storytelling
On Monday we were fortunate enough to participate in an aboriginal storytelling presentation with Mrs. Kervesky's class. One student was the chief and another was a jingle dancer. Other students used traditional instruments to accompany songs.
She told us her drums is made out of moose hide.
Her rattle has caribou fur on it.
Her paddles are made of red cedar.
She sang us some traditional songs.
Pumpkins, pumpkins,pumpkins
We looked carefully at several different types of pumpkins. The students came up with some excellent ideas.
On Tuesday we were going to look at the insides of the different pumpkins so we made predictions , like scientists, about what may be inside the different pumpkins.
The parts of a pumpkin
On Tuesday we looked at a regular pumpkin and learned all the parts of the pumpkin both inside and outside. We made a paper pumpkin and labelled the parts.
Then we opened up all of the different kinds of pumpkins to see what was inside. It was so interesting to see the different varieties. The students were so surprised to see the green pumpkin was bright orange inside. We noticed all of the pumpkins had the same parts as the regular pumpkin.
Students wanted to get a closer look at all of the different pumpkins so I put them out at centre time so they could look at them with magnifying glasses and touch and pick at them with toothpicks. We are becoming pumpkin experts!
The racoons and squirrels enjoyed the leftover pumpkins at my house this weekend.
